Galderma is a global company, founded in 1981, dedicated to providing innovative medical solutions with healthcare professionals around the world to meet people's dermatological needs throughout their life cycle. The company has 34 wholly-owned subsidiaries, a network of global distributors and more than 5000 employees. Galderma's wide range of products is available in 80 countries for the treatment of various skin diseases, including acne, rosacea, onychomycosis, psoriasis and steroid-sensitive skin diseases, pigmentation, skin cancer, and provides medical solutions for these diseases. Also in the case of skin aging, they offer innovative products based on botulinum toxin, not only to counteract the signs of skin aging, but to cure other aesthetic or medical diseases.

Galderma announced that it had strengthened its collaboration with Ipsen for the development and marketing of new neurotoxins as well as acquired the rights in Canada and the USA for the marketing of injectable products in the field of aesthetic medicine. Galderma's medical research never ends: the company has started a clinical trial in the USA for the development of a new Botox-based product to present a neurotoxin in liquid format.

What compositions of Botox does it offer?

Until now, Galderma laboratories have always developed a powder formulation since the toxin needs to be reconstituted with saline, while putting on the market a ready-to-use product would also be a novelty to offer better results, more safety and a satisfactory experience for those who will undergo treatment, as well as the relief of medical specialists not having to make calculations to dose and dilute the product. So far, there are seven types of botulinum neurotoxin, although the trade name Botox is the one that identifies them all. The most used is the type A botulinum toxin because it is the one that can be used in humans as it is purified, but handling is reserved only for professionals in plastic surgery, dermatology, neurology or maxillofacial surgery. This is for the fact that botulinum toxin is a drug that allows to temporarily inhibit the action of the mimic muscles of the face reducing the formation of expression wrinkles: in the USA Botox Parties are fashionable, social events with the presence of a plastic surgeon intent on injecting botulinum toxin to those who request it.

What to know about botulinum toxin?

Botulinum toxin was actually used for the first time to prevent neuromuscular spasms in the eyelids and to correct strabismus, but from 1987 it began to be used in the United States also in the field of cosmetic surgery. In Italy the use of botulinum toxin was authorized by the Ministry of Health in 2004 for the treatment of glabellar wrinkles only in patients aged no more than 65 years. The treatment is usable through a cycle of injections, there is no hospitalization or anaesthesia and lasts from 15 to 20 minutes, it depends on the vastness of the area to be treated and the severity of the damage, although it is not always possible to intervene with this method, effective when the cause is found in the mimic muscles. The same therapy is used to treat hyperhidrosis, excessive sweating, intervening on the sweat glands.

      What are the contraindications?

There are no contraindications or significant side effects unless you suffer from certain pathologies or are intolerant or allergic to the active substance or the Stabilizing or Isotonic agents. During the treatment, you may have a pinching sensation like the one left by an insect bite, for this reason sometimes the skin reddens in the injection area and for a short period of time or a bruise appears that will reabsorb after a few days. Botulinum infiltrations begin to take effect after 4 days after treatment up to 4-6 months.
